IBM. E-business gets back to business

March  2001

E-BUSINESS GETS BACK TO BUSINESS

Or:

Goodbye Cheap Thrills

Hello Bottom Line Benefits

The first chapter of e-business was an emotional one.

It was filled with the promise of wealth, the intensity of rapid innovation, and the passion of entrepreneurship. It also showed a lot of internet start-ups how devastating gravity can be.  The rest of us learned that hype is not a business plan; that the fundamental business principles still apply.  More importantly, we discovered that beyond the deafening roar of dot-com hysteria, there were thousands of businesses working quietly with IBM to become integrated e-businesses, putting their core business processes online and connecting their employees, customers, suppliers and partners.

The second chapter of e-business will be a wiser one.

It will bring more opportunity, more complexity, and more questions: What’s the business model for profitability? What kind of e-business infrastructure do I need to support exponential growth?  If I invest in one particular platform now, will it be right for the next wave of technology?  How do I get our diverse systems to work together?  What’s going to happen when wireless technology becomes a reality?  IBM has already provided the answers for over 20,000 e-business projects.  And we can do the same for you.  The second chapter of e-business is upon us.  Come and be part of it, go to ibm.com/e-business/uk.
